Cress by Marissa Meyer Book Review

My first book review of 2017! I am so sorry for the lack of posts on my blog. I really disappointed myself when I lost touch with writing book reviews and even finding the time to pick up a book. This year I’m going to do my absolute best to turn things around!

Enough of the sulking, time to get into the book review…

I have given Cress by Marissa Meyer five out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Author: Marissa Meyer

Genre: Science Fiction (Dystopian), Adventure, Fantasy, YA

Synopsis (from Goodreads): In this third book in Marissa Meyer’s bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl trapped on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s being forced to work for Queen Levana, and she’s just received orders to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is splintered. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price than she’d ever expected. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai, especially the cyborg mechanic. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

HOLY GUACAMOLE! OH MY STARS! I don’t even know where to begin!

Without a shadow of a doubt, this series is definitely up there in my top 10. Hats off to you Meyer, this book has definitely been my favourite in the series so far!

From the beginning all the way through to the end of this novel I did not want to put this book down at all. AT. ALL. There are so many twists and turns, some that might be obvious to you guys about what event will occur next but in other parts of this book, HECK! I was practically gasping for air after certain events took place!

I don’t want to ruin this book for anybody who hasn’t read it yet, so I’m going to try and keep this as vague as possible.

Cress is the Rapunzel character in this series, who has been imprisoned in a satellite for seven years, which explains why she has lots and lots of hair. She’s an incredible hacker who has been disguising the Lunar ships and spying on Emperor Kaito and his kingdom under strict instructions ordered by Queen Levana and her Thaumaturge, Sybil Mira.

I love each and every character I have stumbled upon so far in The Lunar Chronicles and the way all of their storylines intertwine with one another! The characters are incredibly diverse and have their own unique qualities. I especially love Thorne’s character and personality; he’s very sarcastic and I find myself laughing out loud in a lot of his parts of the book. (If a book is able to make me laugh, cry or gasp then it’s definitely a favourite!)

Meyer’s style of writing is very gripping and manages to capture my attention to keep on reading, even when I should really be catching up with my sleep! I love the way Meyer has showed us a little glimpse of a new character who we will meet in the fourth book of the series, Winter. She seems like a very interesting, unique and “crazy” character who I can’t wait to find out much more about!

I recommend anyone who enjoys fantasy, adventure or young adult books to pick up this series as soon as you can. It’s definitely a strong young adult series you do not want to miss out on.
