Fairest by Marissa Meyer

I have given Fairest by Marissa Meyer five out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Title: FairestImage result for fairest marissa meyer

Author: Marissa Meyer

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Science Fiction (Dystopian)

Synopsis (Goodreads): In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

This is the first novella I believe I have ever read and I really enjoyed it. Learning about Levana’s childhood and how she became Queen was very interesting and answered some of the questions I’d asked myself about in the previous books. I read Winter before reading Fairest, which didn’t spoil it for me but I knew what was going to happen beyond this novella.

I tried so hard not to sympathise with Levana, but a part of me couldn’t help it. I sympathised for Levana more on the fact that I understood who she was and why she became so sinister; it also made me realise how twisted she really was.

I love that Meyer intertwined Cinder and Winter’s whole backstory from when they were born in Fairest as well, as this has shown us an insight to what they were like as children.

Meyer’s writing is magical and simply superb throughout. I really hope she considers writing more spin-off novellas for The Lunar Chronicles series because it’s so damn interesting and I want to know everything about each and every character from birth to death! That might be a little OTT but I really cannot get enough of this universe!

This novella was quite fast-paced and could’ve easily been read in one sitting as each page kept you wanting to find out more.

The best way to read this series I think is in the publication order: (Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Fairest, Winter), as there are some minor spoilers that you’d read about in Fairest if you decided to read this novella first before any of the books in The Lunar Chronicles series.

Marissa Meyer has done it again! I can’t wait to read more of her books.

Happy reading,

Claire 🙂
