Blood Runs Cold by Angela Kay Book Review

Book Description (via Goodreads): A young woman has been murdered at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion and Lieutenant Jim DeLong realises at first sight this case will be the most difficult one of his career. DeLong is immediately swept into the memories of his childhood and dark secrets he’s longed to forget. The victim is his sister-in-law, and old thoughts he’s fought to delete will be resurrected whether DeLong likes it or not. He and his brother have been estranged by unhappy times in their youth. With no clear motive, DeLong questions his ability to remain objective.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I have given Blood Runs Cold by Angela Kay five out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this book! This was exactly the suspension, crime investigating story I needed. From the very beginning of this novel I was absolutely hooked and found it very difficult to put the book down.

The characters were very well-developed and I really enjoyed learning about each character’s background, especially when the author started to reveal the dark history between Lieutenant Jim DeLong and his brother Sullivan DeLong. The main character you follow is Lieutenant Jim DeLong and he was my ultimate favourite. He’s very strong and brave despite previous events that he’s been through in his life and continues to struggle to battle some of them. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about his character, especially as he was very positive and didn’t show any signs of giving up to finding his sister-in-law’s murderer and bringing justice to his family and his sister-in-law’s close loved ones.

Sometimes it can be quite overwhelming when there are more than a few characters to follow in a book however I found it was pretty easy with this story which is all down to the author and her brilliant writing skills.

The build up to the plot of this story was absolutely brilliant! I love books like this when it’s so difficult to pin-point who you think the murderer is and keeps the mystery alive all the way through until the end of the story when all is revealed. Just as soon as I thought I had figured out who the suspect might be, the plot thickened with twists and turns and suddenly I was back to square one with no clue as to whom the suspect could be. Jumping to the end of the book, I really liked how the author wrapped the story up, leaving me feeling relieved not only for myself but for the fictional family I found myself becoming attached to who went through so much trauma. All of my questions were answered by the end of the story and I found myself smiling when I turned the last page in the novel.

This was my first book that I’ve read by this author and I can’t wait to read more of her material! If you’re a fan of crime, suspense and thriller novels I would highly recommend you to read this book and to check out this author!
