THE WALL (Volume One) – Guardian’s Redemption by Some Guy Book Review

Book Description (via Goodreads): A fast paced, sci-fi / fantasy graphic novella that explores the grey areas of the human conscience as it relates to honour, relationships, spirituality, and moral code. Forge (a.k.a. Gunns), the former leader of the UN’s elite task force now finds himself and his devoted crew doing “muscle” work for the current President of the United States. Things get complicated when he meets a man who challenges his current motivations and Gunns must choose between his team or what he believes in.

I have received this graphic novella in exchange for an honest review. I have given THE WALL (Volume One) – Guardian’s Redemption by Some Guy three out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Warning: strong language and gore

With the storyline revolving around “The Wall” between the U.S. and Mexico, this definitely gives me the feeling that this story is influenced around Donald Trump’s idea to build a wall. Filled with violence, gore, action and fantasy this graphic novel was jam-packed to the brim!

I really liked the illustrations that I came across when finishing each chapter as it really helped to set the scene and gave me more of an idea of what the characters looked like and helped me to picture the surroundings better, but I was surprised that there weren’t more illustrations due to this book being a graphic novel.

I couldn’t find a connection or likeness towards the characters which made it a little difficult for me as I like to feel connected and to understand them a lot better, however I really liked the authors touch of giving a more detailed look into the characters backgrounds.

The part that let the novella down for me was actually the formatting I received this book in, as there were line breaks throughout the story and the title, author and page number would appear every so often amongst the text of the story, which was frustrating as I had to keep going back and forth to re-read what I had just read in order to know where I was in the story.

This novella was fast paced and well-written, with an interesting plot twist. I thought the language was a little too strong a times for my liking. It was very different to the stories that I normally read, so for that I was intrigued to find out what was going to happen and would love to find out more in the second volume!

This graphic novella is definitely targeted towards a specific audience who enjoy reading about non-stop action with hints of supernatural/fantasy and explicit language.
