The Lonely Spinsters Club: Kendall (Book One) by Daphne Hargrow Book Review

Book Description (via Goodreads): She doesn’t have time for a relationship, but maybe she could swing a one-night stand. After all, he’s just a stripper, so no need to worry about the future… or a broken heart. Kendall has it all: a soaring law career, a bank account filled with cash, and an apartment overlooking the Chicago River. Her life couldn’t get any better; at least that’s what she thinks before she hosts a bachelorette party for her younger cousin, Ruthie. What starts out as a low-key soirée quickly turns onto an evening of debauchery when two strippers show up unexpectedly. During their act, Kendall can’t keep her eyes off the dark and stoic Giovanni. Fuelled by too many Moscow Mules and ignited by the male form, her surprised desire smoulders. With the prodding of her older cousin Freya, Kendall pursues a one-night stand with Gio. But when she realises she wants more, Kendall is forced to re-examine her priorities as well as her lifelong definition of success.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I have given Kendall by Daphne Hargrow three out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m shocked that it only took me for it hours to read, I don’t think I’ve read a book that quickly in quite a while! In the first half of the book I thought I was 100% invested, but as I read on, I soon realised that the book started to feel quite rushed with the amount of events which were taking place within a short amount of time.

I liked Hargrow’s writing and the characters she introduced in this series. I really liked the relationships and friendships between the cousins from The Lonely Spinsters Club, I love that this book focussed on the family storyline as well as the romantic side. In all honesty, I’m not entirely sure I enjoyed the relationship that Kendall has with Gio. I think if there weren’t so many events that happened and the pace was a little slower when it came to their encounters, especially their sexual ones, then I would’ve enjoyed it that little bit more.

Although I thought the ending to this book ended quite quickly and abruptly, overall I thought it was a quick, fun and enjoyable read. I found myself gasping and giggling at parts of the story especially in the first half of the book. I’m looking forward to starting the second book in the series called Willow. I’m hoping that besides focussing on Willow’s storyline that we’ll also have some of the unanswered questions from Kendall to be answered.

I would recommend this book to fans of romantic, laugh out loud, fast-paced, comedy books.
